Tree Care

The significant tree canopy within the City of Mission Hills contributes to the natural feel and complements the parks, natural areas, and residential development.  The City Arborist is a resource for residents on all urban forestry matters.  If you have questions or concerns related to public or private trees, please contact Jesse Kirk or call City Hall to schedule a meeting.

Urban Forestry License

In October of 2015 the City Council adopted an Urban Forestry License, which sets forth minimum qualifications of contractors engaging in both private and public tree work. Before you have your tree care company do any work, please call City Hall to ensure that they are licensed.

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)

The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) reached the Kansas City area in late July 2012, and was discovered in Mission Hills in June 2015. The Emerald Ash Borer has killed more than 50 million U.S. Ash trees in the last 10 years. The City has developed an Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan for addressing street trees that are Ash, and has a policy for how private Ash trees will be handled once the presence of EAB is confirmed. Below is a list of resources and links that will provide you with additional information. If you would like to schedule a consultation with one of the City’s certified consulting arborists please call City Hall at 913-362-9620.
