Roy Farchmin was elected to the City Council in 2009. Previously, Roy had served on the Mission Hills Planning Commission, the Crime and Safety Committee, and the Park Board. Roy believes a primary issue facing the City is the impact of the increased tear down of homes and redevelopment of lots. Revitalization and reasonable growth can be achieved without overbuilding and damaging the beauty of Mission Hills. Roy suggests more specific ordinances to guide the governing boards concerning home size, scale, setbacks, and landscaping. Roy advocates following J.C. Nichols’ vision found in Mission Hills’ Comprehensive Plan & Development Guide authored by the late Dr. Galloway. Roy is a lawyer with the Kansas City law firm of FarchminDicus, P.C. with emphasis on commercial real estate development, land use, zoning, acquisition, sale, financing and leasing. Roy received both his AB in economics and his JD in law from the University of Missouri, at Columbia. Roy was a Captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the United States Army from 1968 to 1972 and served in Vietnam in 1969. Roy and his wife, Linda, and three children, Doug, Jon & Caroline, have been residents of Mission Hills since 1987.
