[ARCHIVED] Mission Hills Covid-19 Update 3/16/20 - MH Joins Other Local Cities in Declaring State of Emergency

Fellow Residents:

Update 3/16/2020 ~8:20pm

Thank you. Please continue to provide the City feedback, ask questions and follow the fast-changing guidelines of the CDC, the State and the County. I have confidence we can get through this most challenging of times. Again, thank you.

As I noted last night, with the Council’s full support, Mission Hills declared a State of Emergency today. This has the practical effect of simplifying our coordinated efforts with the County, the State and our local partners on our emergency response execution.

To give you perspective on the pace of change, on Friday the County’s emergency declaration limited gatherings of more than 250 people. This morning when I signed the City’s declaration, we followed the CDC guideline of no more than 50 people, and just this evening, the CDC’s new guideline is gatherings no larger than 10 people. The situation is ever-changing.

As I also mentioned in my update last night, the City’s Covid-19 City plan has been implemented. Our staff split into two teams today and we will continue the plan until further notice. I again urge you to try to conduct City business on our website (www.missionhillsks.gov) or over the phone with staff. Please only come to City Hall in the most urgent of circumstances.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, March 17th) will be our first test of the City’s online response to keeping our services moving. The ARB will be conducting their meeting via GoToMeeting (GTM). GTM is one of several services (Zoom, WebEx, etc.) that allow not just call-in, but online document sharing during the meeting. The full information for tomorrow’s meeting (which is unequivocally open to the public!) is at the end of this update.

Please know that we thought extensively about whether to cancel the ARB meeting in the current environment, but we need to test this part of our plan, and there is no time like the present.

In closing, and I will likely ask this until the crisis ends, please encourage your fellow residents to sign up for these updates at the City’s website:

We want every resident to be safe and informed, and this is one of our key tools.

Thank you again. As always, if you have questions, you can call City Hall at 913-362-9620 or email me directly at mayor@missionhillsks.gov.
