Fellow Residents:

Day one of our Stay-at-Home is over.

I walked our City four times today – I have found routes that take 5, 10, 15 and 30 minutes depending on the interludes I have given everything transpiring, and the calls I can take while walking. Steve Jobs famously did many of his most important meetings while walking, so I feel I’m in good company!

Three important updates happened in the State and County in the last 48 hours which I want to share:

• The KDHE added the states of New Jersey and Illinois to the mandatory 14-day self-quarantine list. The details of that list can be found here: https://khap2.kdhe.state.ks.us/NewsRelease/PDFs/3-23-2020%20Updates.pdf
• Johnson County’s Stay-at-Home Order went into effect at 12:01am today. Perhaps more importantly, the County changed its guidelines for what to do if you have mild illness (expanding the stay-at-home time to 72 hours). Details can be found here: https://www.jocogov.org/coronavirus-covid-19-update
• Kansas Governor Laura Kelly signed an Executive Order limiting state-wide gatherings to 10, better defining Essential Functions and other related items. Tonight’s final thought is fairly simple. We live in a wonderful community blessed on many levels. We will emerge from this pandemic on the other side stronger, despite the hardship. That said, make no mistake that this is hard. But many in our larger community are struggling with all that is happening - much more than many of us.

If you are so inclined and able, try takeout from one of your favorite local restaurants this week and the weeks to come. Or even delivery if they so offer. You will likely make more of a difference than you will ever know.
