[ARCHIVED] Mission Hills Mayor COVID-19 Update #17 4/28/20

Fellow Residents:

I believe the Kansas Stay-at-Home order will end this weekend, but that does not mean this crisis is over.  Governor Kelly will be announcing her plan later this week (and MO Governor Parson announced his yesterday).  I hope you will follow the plans on both sides of the state line, as well as in our County and City, to help keep everyone safe while opening the economy simultaneously.

Thank you.

I have four brief updates tonight, and will have a more robust set over the weekend:

1)    The Johnson County COVID-19 Recovery Planning Task Force met extensively again today and released a draft plan for the County to reopen.  It can be found here:

https://www.jocogov.org/sites/default/files/documents/CMO/Draft%20Johnson%20County%20Recovery%20Plan%204.28.20.pdf

2)    Governor Kelly said she would release her plan for re-opening Kansas this Thursday, April 30th.  I will post the link to that plan once it is available.

While not the state in which we live, Governor Parson of Missouri released his plan which can be found at the link below.  The Missouri Plan is obviously relevant for many reasons, including that we share a 2.5-mile border with Kansas City.

3)    Mayor Lucas of KCMO has not changed his stance on the Stay-at-Home for Kansas City.  That Order continues until May 15th.

4)    I have said this previously, but want to emphasize it again.

We now have reasonably accurate data from the New York City health department through April 27th.  That data confirms something that has been seen worldwide.

As a very wise resident reminded me, when the Stay-at-Home orders lift, make sure you and any young people in your house understand the simple math of this virus.

Through April 27th, 72% of the deaths had an underlying health condition.  And 73% of deaths were in adults 65 and older.

If you know anyone with an underlying health condition or over 65 be vigilant!  Do not be the carrier that brings the virus to the person unable to fight it!

If you have any questions or want to provide feedback, please call or email City Hall at 913-362-9620 or info@missionhillsks.gov.  As always, you are welcome to email me directly at mayor@missionhillsks.gov.

Enjoy the beauty of the Spring in Mission Hills this week!
