Fellow Residents:
A quick note about the current weather conditions.
As many of you have heard, the operator of the electricity grid that covers Kansas and Missouri issued an alert yesterday to reduce power usage. In conjunction, the grid operator and Evergy, our power provider, began rolling 30-60 minute blackouts to conserve energy. Those blackouts are likely to continue for the next 48 hours. As I write this (8:50am) City Hall has no power.
Because of that, we are cancelling today’s (2/16/21) ARB meeting. A crucial part of our virtual meetings is for all interested parties to have the opportunity to join, and it would be unfair for an interested resident to not have their voice heard because of lack of power. To all of you who were on today’s agenda, please accept our apologies, but this is certainly a unique circumstance!
Also weather related, most of the chemicals used to melt ice and snow are ineffective at temperatures below about 10-15 degrees (above zero!). Please take care on our roads given that there will be limited melting and a light snow pack on most.
On a somewhat brighter note, Johnson County’s Covid case and hospitalization rates are the lowest since June. While the pandemic is still with us, vaccine rollouts continue, and there is proverbial light at the end of the tunnel!
As always, if you have questions or comments, feel free to call City Hall at 913-362-9620 or email info@missionhillsks.gov. You are always welcome to email me directly at mayor@missionhillsks.gov.
Please stay healthy and safe.
