Building Permit Construction Hours & Durations

Construction Hours - Heavy construction noise is permitted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. No work can occur on Sundays or legal holidays. If work occurs outside of these hours, it can result in a citation. If you observe construction outside of the permitted hours, please call the Police Department’s non-emergency number, 913-642-5151.

Building Permit Duration - Permit expirations are determined by the scope and nature of the permitted project. Once the permit expires, it shall become null and void unless an extension is purchased.

Building permit expiration dates shall be determined based upon the scope and nature of the project for which the permit is sought, as follows:

The City Administrator shall determine the expiration date for a permit if the project is not listed in the chart above and can make a determination if there is unique circumstance related to the project.

Permit Extensions - An extension may be requested in accordance with the above chart. In no case shall an extension be more than six (6) months. Permittee must pay a penalty of 25% of the original permit fee for each month of the requested extension. Additional work time beyond the extension requires a secondary permit and City Council approval.
